There were not believed to be any injuries but police have cordoned off the scene

A mid-terraced house was cordoned off after what was reported as a "massive fire" late last night.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to All Saints Road, Speke, at 10.45pm and were on scene at 10.48pm. Three fire engines attended as well as an aerial appliance.

A spokesperson said: "On arrival crews found a fire in the loft space of a property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using high pressure hose reel jets. Fire crews left the scene at 1.24am (Monday)and the incident was handed over to Merseyside Police."

It is believed the occupants of the house managed to escape without injury. One person said on a Facebook community page following the incident: "I thought it was fireworks going off then heard people shouting and looked out to a whole sky of orange. It was horrific, proper frightening."

This morning, June 20, the house at the centre of the blaze remained cordoned off and police were at the scene. Badly burnt debris was visible in the front garden.

Merseyside Police was approached for comment.
