Press release from the FCFRD News Blog:

Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company (FOVFR) President Jonathan Wood, was recognized with a special Lifetime Achievement Award for 50 Years of consecutive, operational service. President Wood was honored during the 2021 Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services Awards held at the Fairfax County Government Center on Tuesday, September 13. Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman McKay, Fire Chief Butler, and Chair of the Volunteer Fire Commission Stokes, presented President Wood with a plaque and firefighter helmet.

President Wood joined the FOVFR in 1982. Prior to that, he had been a junior member with the Greater Springfield Volunteer Fire Department and served there for ten years. While he currently serves as the FOVFR President, Jonathan is also a volunteer command officer. Throughout his tenure, he has served in many roles including volunteer Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, President, and Vice-President. He is also a past President of the Fairfax County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.

Jonathan is also an adjunct instructor at the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Academy and is a former member of the technical rescue team. You may have seen recently that FOVFR is donating their used ambulance to Ukraine – yes, Jonathan coordinated that as well. He is a passionate supporter of volunteers and has dedicated thousands of hours of his time, over most of his life, to the combination system. We want to thank President Jonathan Wood for his 50 years of dedicated service, and congratulate him on the well-deserved, Lifetime Achievement Award.
