AUDUBON — The new Audubon Fire Station will go to a vote this fall, a second time the public is asked to approve a bond referendum for the project, for an amount not to exceed $2.8 million. The Audubon City Council unanimously approved moving forward with the plans to put the bond issue on the ballot.

Last time voters were asked to approve the item, the vote failed, and officials with the fire department have said they felt that “bad information” contributed to the numbers of “no” votes.

They plan to hold public meetings to explain the project, plans and cost. The new building will be built on the open lot a little south of the current fire station.

In other business, the council approved spending $40,458 for Fire Department equipment using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The money will purchase 40 sets of rescue gloves and wildland extrication clothing. Another $160,332.40 from budgeted funds from the General Fund will be used to purchase helmets, hoods, gloves, pants, boots and coats.

Fire Department officials also noted that the T-Bone celebration would be coming up and their annual fund-raising pancake breakfast would be held that weekend, another way to support Audubon Fire and Rescue.
